The League season of the Lincolnshire Intermediate Football League has lost four teams before a ball is even kicked. Unfortunately, Cleethorpe Town (Premier), Louth Old Boys (North), Waddington Utd ( Central) & Cranwell (South) have all had to withdraw due to player shortage. Looking at the matches which did go ahead, once again the football on show for the spectators was of the highest standard and lets hope this can be continued throughout the season. The Premier League opened with Skegness Town and Caythorpe & Fulbeck fighting out a 0-0 draw with both teams having chances to secure the points but neither side could break the deadlock. Grantham Amateurs entered the league for the first time and their first match ended in a close 3-2 home defeat against Grimsby Stamford Homes, where goals from J Thompson, Jack Debnam & J Simpson saw the Grimsby Stamford Homes lads secure their first three points of the season. Grantham Amateurs fought al the way and goals from O Clark and a Grimsby Stamford Homes defender gave them hope of snatching a point as time ebbed away. Sleaford Town continued this season where they finished last with a convincing 4-1 home win over Nettleham. The home Sleaford Town goals came from Paul Crampton, Jack Greenwood, Ben Thompson & T Luto with Joshua Bowden getting the Nettleham consolation on the day. In the North League goals from J Burton (2), D Bealey, J King, T Adlington & R Gilbert saw Retford Utd open their campaign with a 6-1 home win over New Holland Barca who replied with a goal from C.Lodkum. Saxilby Athletic entertained old adversaries Scampton Hawks and between them they came up with a 10 goal thriller with Scampton Hawks just edging home 6-4. The Scampton Hawks goals came from A Bee (3), K.Paul (2) & L Fields with Saxilby Athletic hitting back with goals from A Harrison (2), A Robinson & K Brennan but they hadn’t got time to get the other two goals back and so it was Scampton hawks that claimed the points. Brigg Town lost out 4-2 in their home encounter with Caistor Crusaders whose goals came from Nathan Smith (2), Thomas Hayes & Coel Fulton whilst the Brigg Town goals came from K Mallia & M Hotchin. Appleby Frodingham had a close fought 1-0 away win at Welton thanks to a J Addison goal. Retford Utd had a good day as their Central League side claims the points in their match at Metheringham where the 3 -0 scoreline somewhat flatters the home side. Retford Utd were always in command and took the lead after 20 mins when Mitch Holland slotted home the rebound after the home keeper had pushed aside a long range Retford Utd effort. Their lead was increased just on half time as a A McClure shot took a slight deflection and steered the ball into the top corner giving the home keeper no chance. The Metheringham defence had been given no time to rest by Mitch Holand and R Haig and it was just consolation when on 73 mins R Haig got the goal his play deserved as he scrambled home the ball. Travellers Youth had a good 4-2 win at Manor Utd thanks to goals from Lee Smith (2), Matt Lofts & M Newton with Steve Bagley & A Harper getting goals back for Manor Utd. Welton had a good start to their league campaign with a 6-1 home win over Greenbank where goals from O Thorne (3), C Hodson, J Sharp & M Cook saw them home with a A Smith goal proving just consolation for Greenbank. Colsterworth Colts made the journey to Boston Young Pilgrims in the South League and came away with the points after an odd goal in 5 victory. They secured the points thanks to goals from Jack Dilloway, Ben Canny & Daniel Kyle, with Jamie Bowman & N Bourne getting the home Boston Young Pilgrims goals. Thurlby Utd started well with a 3-2 home win over FC Kirton with D Tameurrini, R Pearce & J Lipscomb getting their goals and A Abell getting both for FC Kirton but they could find the equalizer. Heckington Utd & Swineshead Institute shared 4 goals and the points as they drew 2-2 with Heckington Utd goals coming from A Clayton & G Ambler with M Charman getting both Swineshead Institute goals to ensure a share of the points. |
